When it comes to bathrooms in hotels or rental homes you either love them or you hate them. Obviously your goal when you own a vacation home is to create the bathroom your guest will love. Now, this doesn’t mean you have to have marble everywhere or gold plated fixtures. What it does mean is your bathroom needs to be properly maintained, free of leaks, and free of the brown/black stuff. (You can use your imagination there.) Here are my top three tips to making a clean and inviting bathroom for your guests and I’ve linked certain items if you wish to purchase items off amazon for your own bathroom.
1- Pay your cleaner well. I interviewed at least 5 different cleaners before we had guests in our cottage. I didn’t go with the cheapest. I also didn’t go with the most expensive. I went with the one who came with references, the one who followed up, and the one who showed up on time. She has been great and I’m so glad because our guests make continuous comments about how clean the cottage is upon arrival.
2- Plush, absorbent towels. Towels are an easy way to make guests feel like they’re staying in a luxurious resort. I opt for light, neutral colors of pure white or light grey. The number of towels you leave out is totally your preference but I base mine on the amount of people staying. Usually two bath, two hand, and two washcloths per guest. I do have black washcloths for makeup removal as well. Opt for white bath mats that dry quickly. are some examples of what we use.
3- Leave local toiletries. Our cottage is in Maine so we always have Tom’s of Maine toothpaste and local soaps for that local touch. Also, make sure there toilet paper is stocked. It’s not a hotel so if someone runs out, they can’t just call room service, it’s a store run.
I’m a germaphobe. If I know some naked person showered and their skin touches the shower curtain or those gross plastic liners, I’m not touching them. Therefore, I get the fabric shower liners that you can wash. 🙂
